The role of a Celebrant for non-religious funeral services

A Celebrant is a trained professional with the skills and knowledge to be able to help plan and design a unique ceremony for the person who has passed. They work alongside the family, discussing songs, readings, poems and dedications, helping with any eulogy, and on the day be the person in charge of guiding the ceremony; ultimately undertaking the final committal and farewell. This can be done, even before the person has passed, often in discussion with the whole family.

This type of ceremony is aimed at capturing the life-story and essence of the individual being honoured and celebrated; and can be as solemn or upbeat as desired. There can be an element of religious content if required (e.g. The Lord’s Prayer) but overall it is humanist based.

If this is something you think you might like, Wealden Funeral Services are happy to recommend a local Celebrant who will be more than happy to talk through the process with you without obligation.
